Mikey Garcia will defend his WBO featherweight title against Juan Manuel Lopez in Dallas.
Garcia vs Lopez is officially announced on June 15th at the American Airlines Center in Dallas Texas. The title bout featuring the undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Mikey Garcia as he defend for the first time belt against Puerto Rican former champion Juan Manuel Lopez
Garcia vs Lopez has been discussed plenty since Mikey's January win over Orlando Salido, but there was always the belief that the fight would take place at a 128-pound catchweight. The contract clearly states it will be a title fight, with the max weight the divisional limit of 126 pounds.
Garcia (31-0, 26 KO) has thus far been terrific as a pro, and his win over Salido -- though cut short due to injury -- was a pretty thorough clinic for the majority of the eight rounds it lasted, with Salido down four times and just totally outboxed by the younger man.

World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion MIKEY GARCIA will make his first title defense, against former two-division world champion JUAN MANUEL “Juanma” LOPEZ, Saturday, June 15, at the American Airlines Center (2500 Victory Ave., Dallas, TX 75219). The fight will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark®, beginning at 10:45 p.m. ET/PT. This will be the first time HBO has televised a boxing event from the American Airlines Center. Making their Dallas debut, Garcia and Lopez boast a combined record of 64-2 (56 KOs) — a winning percentage of 97% and a victory by knockout ratio of 87.5%.

Mikey Garcia will defend his WBO featherweight title against Juan Manuel Lopez in Dallas.If you watch that fight again you’ll notice that Mikey was holding his left arm way out in front of him and using it to pull Salido’s head down when he would come forward to try and throw punches.
This prevented Salido from getting his shots off, and it was something that Mikey used effectively in the first four rounds until Salido’s head movement got so good that Mikey wasn’t able to shove him like before.
You can’t have a fighter with long arms using their arms to shove their head’s down because then the fight becomes effectively a shoving match where the guy with the best shoving technique wins the fight.
The referee that worked the Salido-Garcia fight should have gave a warning in the first round when he first saw Mikey doing that and then taken points off when it was clear that Mikey was using this as a defensive strategy.
